Jack Drum inquired about how I was doing now after my Maze surgery on 4/4/02. I have had 4 episodes of rapid heart beat since the operation. The first in the hospital the doctors called "sinus tach". I believe they meant that it was sinus rhythm, but at a faster rate than normal. 110bpm vice 90bm where it had been. Three times since I've been home, I have experienced the same symptoms, which have lasted 2 to 4 hours. The last episode was 4 days ago, lasting 2 hours. I called my Maze surgeon, Dr. Millar, in SLC, and he said, not to worry, these rhythms are common post Maze for a while, and should disappear after everything is healed. He said to stay on the Rythmol I've been taking, but to cut the dosage in half in 2 weeks, and then quit it in 4 weeks. By then, hopefully, I should be rid of my "tachs". I have felt good since the last tachycardia, and think that I may be in NSR from here on out. Anyway, I'm very optomistic at this point, and am looking forward to an A-fib free life. Thanks so much, Jack, for your interest in me. It's wonderful to know that you're not all alone out here, trying to get your life back together.
