John: Great news on the improvement of your ejection fraction and your pending maze procedure.
Rest easy re: cryoablation. I believe this is the pretty standard procedure now, since it apparently (obviously is probably a better word) there is much less bleeding and healing is faster. My maze of 1/18/01 at Cleveland Clinic by Dr. McCarthy employed this procedure and, although I had the open chest routine, I believe it is used with the mini-maze as well. I hope and pray that your procedure is as successful as those of us who were at the CC during the last 1/2 of January, have, as a whole, experienced.
Just don't let them overmedicate you with Rythmol. It seems as though almost everyone who has post op AF has been given big doses of Rythmol and when they are able to get it reduced by their attending cardiologist at home, they have great improvement in how they feel.
Be sure to set up a site at thestatus.com so we can follow your progress. If you don't have a laptop, perhaps your hospital will have computer/internet access for a friend or relative to use to make posts. They had such a facility at the CC.
Good luck!
