Don,
I think you have come up with yet another definition of "cure". That is, if you do not require a pacemaker after the maze then you are cured. This sounds very strange to me. I never for a moment thought that I would end up with a pacemaker after the maze. What do other people think about this?

Also, until two weeks ago I thought I was in NSR because my ventricular (pulse) heart rate, with medications, was 75 bpm. It turns out that I was in flutter at 4:1 ratio. The atria were beating at 300 bpm while the ventricles were beating at 75 bpm. So I think I will consider a "cure" to comprise all of the following:

1. The atria and the ventricles both beating steadily at the same rate. (Normal Sinus Rhythm).
2.No medications (except for Coumadin, Aspirin).

Last week I asked a nurse at CC what their definition was. She said condition #1, (NSR), above, with or without medications. So according to them, as long as the heart beats in NSR, you could be on heavy doses of amiodarone and still be considered "cured".

What do other people think?
