I saw Dr. Millar today for my post op visit after my Maze surgery on 4/5/02 (13 days ago). He said, "Go home". So tomorrow I'm flying on back to San Diego. My recovery has not been totally NSR, but Dr. Millar feels that the few irregular heart beat periods I've experienced are something that are fairly normal post Maze occurences, and they will disappear with time. Will keep you posted on my recovery in the ensuing weeks.
Carl Plaskett asked me to check with Dr. Millar on the "cure" rate with his Maze patients. Dr. Millar's "bare bones" answer was that after the first 100 Mazes their numbers were about 93% pacemaker free. Now that he's done about 200 Mazes, he believes the percentage is still about the same; that is 93% "cured", meaning no pacemakers post Maze.
Will be glad to get out of the snow and bad weather here in SLC. Also looking forward to my own bed in SD, and perhaps a good night's sleep, which I haven't experienced since the surgery 13 days ago. Don
