I am happy to tell you all that 8 weeks after the maze surgery my heart still beats OK but still a bit fast at 86 during a resting period. Felt sore the first 4 weeks as if sandpaper had been inserted sandcleaning my thorax. And Aaah, these musclepains between the shoulders.
I am looking forward to fysiotherapy later this week. The man who drove more than 1000 miles home is most certainly a hero.
Here, in the Netherlands, Europe, it seems that Maze-surgeries are done in at least four hospitals; in Nieuwegein ( weekly); Groningen; Zwolle and one of the hospitals in Heerlen or Eindhoven).
A-fib started three years ago. It runs in the family ( father and two out of three brothers have it) After three months of experiments with several drugs my heart stabilised on Tambocor. Six months later Atriumflutter broke through. I had a beta-blocker on top of the Tambocor which slowed me down but not the fluttering. I had three or four shocks and finally an ablation which stopped the flutter but not the A-fib.
And now my friends it seems that my worries are over.
I hope to be able to stop the Coumarin next month.
Thank you, Dr Defauw in Nieuwegein, thank you Henk Koster for your visit, thank you Jack Drum for this inspiring site and most of all thank you my partner Vera.

Tom
