angie, i had the maze done on the 29th of november. i don't think i was a normal case, if there is such a thing with atrial fibrillation. my doctors all advised against it but i was tired of the endless drugs and emergency room visits. afterwards, i was in the hospital for some 12 days. it was rough. i am 51 but i feel i was in good condition. prior navy and heavy exercise my whole life including my present job. since leaving ohio i was in junctional rythym. i was in junctional rythym almost my whole time in the hospital also. i remained in junctional rythym for at least 3 months with no atrial activity at all except when i was on a treadmill stress test. then they kicked in at about 117 beats per minute and continued to work until about 5 minutes after i stopped. then nothing again. this last week starting about the 24th or so i noticed my heart beating strangely and at work i got dizzy so i went to the hospital and my pulse was 83, up from the norm of around 65. also my heart is beating irregularly and i feel pressure in my chest so they are setting me up for a thallium stress test. now, i hope you don't think i'm the ordinary atrial fib patient. i'm not. every one is different. i was lone paroxymal atrial fibrillation, not chronic. the medications did not work on me. if you have not already done so, talk to diane beilfuss at ohio state university. she is THE one. she will help you through anything. you can tell her that for me, too. call me or email me anytime if you wish,my phone is 305-872-3135.
