Gerald,
Glad your home and sorry you have had the (bumps).
As you know I had my Maze by Dr. Duncan at THI on 12-4-01. I have had no A-Fib. as far as I know. I did start havng some "Skipped Beats " on about the 17th day. I had a holter done by local cardio. He reported only a number of PVC"s and no A-Fib. I talked with Dr. Massumi and he had me try a small dose of Rythmol. It helped the PVC"s. I still have them but have not taken any Rythmol in about 5-6 weeks. They seem to happen when my heart rate slowes down and after eating a meal and setting down or bending over. Not sure what the realation is. I feel them most often in the abd. area.Like someone poking me in the stomach. I can also feel them if taking my pluse.
My heart rate was faster post Maze also. I took iron for about two months. It is still faster than before surgery but has gone down from resting 85-90 to about 68-72 and walking around from 95-110 to about 85 - 90.
At exercising it will go up to about 130 or higher without any problem. I noticed a number on the board report "skipped beats" and they seem to decline with time. They can be bothersome tho.I was hoping Dr. Massumi would take me off the coumidin but he is conservative and feels I should stay on the med. for a couple of more months until he does a echo to see it the ateria are working ok at 6 months. My 12 weeks EKG showed some flat P-waves and he stated this was not uncommon . The local Cardio. thought it would be ok to get off the coumidin and take 81 mg. of ASA per day. I notice a number of others are off the coumidin very soon and do the asprin.
The only other unsual heart beats have been some rapid heart rate for about 6- 10 beats and then stops. I had 5-6 in Jan. 1 in Feb. and 2 in March.I sure hope everything goes well and God Bless,
TC
