I had my MAZE in August, 2000 at the Cleveland Clinic. I had 'hit the wall' after 15 plus years of suffering with a-fib. It got to the point where I couldn't live my life..therefore, I was almost more fearful of NOT having the surgery. I tried my best to look beyond the procedure and focus on the end result. I am happy to report that I have been free of a-fib since discharge and am now off all meds. The sense of freedom is wonderful...and the couple days of discomfort post-op are now a distant memory. My best advice is to maintain a positive attitude and don't get hung up on the 'particulars' of the surgery...I know that it can be daunting, but in my opinion the anticipation was far worse than the event!!
