My doc told me that the heart's structure is somewhat "inflexible" after the operation. This results in a feeling of "recistence". It seems to me that this logically will affect the heart's response time; it simply takes longer time for the heart to respond to an increased activity. For me, this manifested itself in an onset of lactic acid during the first part of a work out. Now (2 years post op) I feel that things have improved a lot in this respect. I can still feel the "resistence", but it goes away much quicker and I can also push myself much harder.
My advise would therefore be, out of my own experiences, to just keep on training. If it feels OK (i e if there's no pain etc. involved), don't be afraid to push yourself. Using a heart (pulse) monitor is a good thing. I'm sure your training will gradually improve.
Best regards,
Anders
