You and I share the same six month anniversary, having had our MAZE's last August at Ohio State Medical Center.

I too have had some "funky" beats periodically and frankly worried they might be afib. I described to my cardiologist that sometimes, not always, these beats occurred in the evening some time after playing racquetball or working out at the gym. I had no peculiar beats at all DURING my workouts. These beats occur at other times too during the day or evenings when I have not had a workout. They have not been debilitating for me however, and I have been able to acknowledge them and then tolerate them with relatively little discomfort. When my wife sees me taking my watch off to check my pulse and beat regularity, she knows I am experiencing these beats again.

I feel so fortunate that my cardiologist is so familiar with the MAZE and is open to email communication which I have taken advantage of several times since my MAZE. He responded with his opinion that my experience was not afib, but rather, and most assuredly, was due to PVC's. He said it was his plan to allow more healing time for my heart and then have another echocardiogram done this spring to again assess my status. You may recall that I am not in NSR, but remain in junctional rhytym. The echo will again analyze and report my rhythm status. He suggested he might have me wear the Holter monitor for a period of time.

As an aside, I am tall at 6'4" and know from standing beside you in the hospital corridor as we did our walks that you are taller than me. It is still a mystery to me how you fit in that hospital bed when I recall the difficulties I had.

I look forward to learning how quickly and well OSU responds to your messages and wish you the best! Do keep us posted.

Roger
