Vivan, it is hard to say if you would be going to the extreme in having the maze. I think that is something you will have to answer yourself. The maze is more invasive, but not more dangerous than ablations. The PV ablation is considered by most as carrying a higher incident of side effects than the maze. The cure rate for ablation is not near as high as the maze.
It all depends on how much the AF is affecting your life, and the chances of some serious side effects from the medication your taking for the AF.
The amiodarone 300mg, you are taking is a very dangerous drug for side effects. The first thing I would suggest is to inform yourself about all the side effects that people get from this medication. Don't just take the information from the drug companies on this. Read all you can from the AF web sites from people who has been on it. This will give you a better view of what might take place. Some of the side effects from amiodarone are not reversible after stopping the drug. Discuss your findings with your doctor. You are on some form of blood thinner arn't you?
