Nancy the Maze procedure is open heart surgery, or a minimal variation of the open heart. It is not something for a person to enter into without learning all you can.
Most of the people going for the Maze are like I myself was, or similar to it. I had fought AF with medications and everything I could, but it had degraded the quality of my life untile I could no longer continue in that manner. I was lucky enough to have a cardiologist that knew about the maze and recommended it to me.
I had my surgery April 10, 1998, and I have been AF, and medication free ever since.
The surgery affects everyone a little different, but for me it was much easier than I had expected, and I was 64 at the time of my surgery.
The Maze procedure has around a 95% cure rate, and is done in Houston by Dr. J. Michael Duncan. If you will click on and open the MAZE SURGEONS tab, you can get his telephone no. and all.
I hope this helps some, and if you would like to get more replies to your post, you maybe should make a new post with any questions you have and that way it will go on top of the board.
Best wishes and prayers.
