I would like to know more about the MAZE procedure. What is it and how is it done? I was diagnosed with AF in August of 2001. I am on Lanoxin and atenolol. The only symptom I have when I'm in AF is a rapid, irregular heartbeat. I always know when I am in it. I would prefer not to have to take medication, but my cardiologist says that I'm not a candidate for anything else because the medication does work for me. I live in Houston. Do you know any physicians in Houston? Particularly, I would like to know what the MAZE procedure is. Is it the same thing as radiofrequency ablation?
