I haven't read anything on this specifically in maze papers. My own experience is probably a little atypical because a I had a very low resting heart prior to surgery. WHen in sinuss, my heart rate was between 30 and 35, when in a fib, it was in the low 40's. The low heart rate in a fib contributed a lot to my symptoms. My heart rate was about 90 immdiately post op, came down to high 50's over the first 6 months or so, and is now (3 years +) between 40 and 45 at rest. I wouldn't worry about it too much. The ability of the heart to pump blood isn't terribly dependent on maximum heart rate. True, resting heart rate is related to phsysical fitness, but there are a lot of other factorss as well. As long as you are within the range of noarmal, feel well and have reasonably good exercise tolerance, and most importantly, can do what you enjoy doing (assuming it's heart healthy) I wouldn't worry. BY analogy to car engines, some people develop their power, with a lot of cubic inches at low revs, others, high revs, lesser cubic inches. I think, however, that for a number of reasons not related to overall pumping ability, the maze tends to tends to reset the idle speed on all of us.
