Ozzi, running did help my heart rate early on but even with my fitness, the rate stayed high for six to nine months after my surgery. I wouldn't be too concerned about that at this time.
As far as your scar is concerned, I've learned to enjoy it. When I'm swimming or in some place where others are (hot tub) and they notice the scar, I can bore them with my maze stories. I had the Dr. McCarthy minimal three inch opening and I still show a scar and I think I always will. That's OK. The heart is beating just fine and it's a very small price to pay.
