Jerry:

I am a maze alumni (8/8/00 CC), and will always be forever greatful to Drs. Cox and McCarthy for giving my life back to me!! However, like you I seriously question the validity of their statistics...especially for ablation. You raise very legitimate questions about the 80%...Those of us who have done the research and talked to people know differently based on first-hand input from those who have had ablations without long-term success.

I do belive that the success rate from the maze to be in the 90% range.... But, I have said from the beginning that I have had not so much as a 'hint ' of follow-up from the CC since my surgery, and I have to wonder where are they getting their numbers. Plus, there are those who have posted on this board who have had problems post-op and have had no luck whatsoever in getting help from the CC.

My feeling is that there are some large egos at play here... and little if any follow up...
