Dear TC:
As it was explained to me the repair was the preferable route. Since I could not get a repair, then the recommended solution for me was the St Judes valve. It was recommended by Dr. Walton Lillehei prior to my surgery (he had operated on me in 1957 and also helped develope the St. Jude valve), by my present cardiologist and I never discussed any other choice. I mostly don't hear the cliking unless I am very still sometimes in bed. I sometimes seem more aware of it than other times. I have become accustomed to it. If I ran up the stairs for example and then sit very still, I can hear it. I don't seem aware of it most of the time. I hear it occasionally. I like the fact that I don't have to have another surgery as it should last my lifetime but the down side is the coumadin. Good luck to you.
Sheena
