At the age of 41,(1990) I started AF. With monthly bouts, then weekly, then hourly, then all the time. I went to a cardiologist, then an elctrophysiologist. I tried every medication on the market. I walked around with monitors on and was studied head to toe. At the time I felt like I was the only one in the world that had this. Then my Doc told me about an operation that she had watched when she was an intern at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. She also talked very highly of the surgeon that performed the Maze Proceedure, Dr. Thoralf Sundt. He was my God send. At age 50, (nine years after my first bout) I decided to get the proceedure done. Like all of you, it was a long hard climb, but I ended up victorious. I recouperated for three weeks and then went back to work for a few hours a day. I have a normal 60 BPM and do find it hard to get an exercising rate or more than 110. I would never do it differently. My life was basically over and I could feel myself aging fast. I have spent the last three years trying to fix the damage to my skin and body that the ravaging ten years caused. I think I'll make it. I just have one complaint..........it may or may not be related to the Maze Proceedure, but if I put my head lower than my waist, I feel a great pressure in my head, ears and upper body and I can feel throbing in my ears. If any one has this feeling too, then I would like to know. I just had a CT Scan, my primary care doc wants to make sure I have no other problems there. I think it could be from the operation, but it is well worth it to put up with this feeling rather than to deal with AF. Bye......AF
