My experience was that it took more than a year for my aerobic capacity to even approach what it was pre-op. Anders Kingstad had a terrific description of the sensation< "like running with the hand break on". I had a sense of being limited becasue of shortness of breath and a sensation of pressure in my neck. It gradually got better, between one and two years post op. I never had any trouble getting my heart rate up, however. Are you on any meds like betapace, or other antiarrhythmics with beta blocking activity?

The fact that your heart rate returns to normal post exercise is good, the faster, the better condition you are likley in.

The failure to increase heart rate at onset of exercise also occurred with me, still does to an extent. To a degree this is normal, and has to do with getting your core temperature up. If you find it uncomfortable to do warm up at steady state you can do repeated short bursts of higher level activity, one to 2 minutes each burst, with a 30"or so rest period in between.
