The amount by which you can increase your heart rate in response to exercise, termed "heart rate reserve" is a concept well known to exercise physiologists (and coaches). The two are probably equivalent, but ytou can always be greedy. Do you know what your max HR was prior to surgery,even if lasat measured say 10-20 years ago. If your max now is notably less that your max then with the difference in age subtracted, something may have happeneed to your sa node in the iunterim. The major change in the MAZE 1 to MAZE 2 was a change in an RA incision line adjacent to the sa node. The incision didn't affect resteing hr, but did affect the ability of the sa node to increase its fring rate in response to exercise.. I'm not suggesting this happend to you, might also be underly9ing sa node disease or an extreme variant of normal.
