Carl,
Just in order to add to our pool of information, I would like to describe briefly the Minimally Invasive Maze Procedure that I received. As far as I can tell, Dr McCarthy did not go through, or under, the ribs since there is no horizontal scar over my rib cage. He performed what the report calls "a primary lower sternotomy". I have a 5.25 inch vertical scar on my sternum in the center of my chest, so I assume I received a smaller version of the complete chest-splitting operation that you and many of the other mazers received.
