I have been reading the messages on this board for a year or so and really find this group helpful. My background is that I have been fighting this A-fib for about 6 years now. I started out taking beta blockers to control the problem and have now worked up to Betapace and other meds and a resting heart rate in the 50's. Only medicine left to try is Amiodarone and my EP says the long term effects are not good. As I am 58, I am considering the Maze and spoken to the CC about the procedure. The problem is that I am not in Afib all the time. Only when I really exert myself, as in lead an active life as I used to pre-Afib, or get tired does it start. The medicines do make me feel tired and I have other side effects from them. I just keep thinking about having the Maze done. Those who are in A-fib most or all of the time probably don't have such a hard decision to make?
I am curious if any of the readers have been like me and decided to have the Maze done? I am in a grey area and don't want to wait a lot longer to have the Maze. On the other hand, I read messages from people who have had the Maze and are still having problems years after the procedure.
Any comments or stories will be apperciated!!
