Jackie,

For me, the MAZE was the last stop (8/8/00).. I dont think that my story is much different than your husband's and most of the others on the board. After failing over several years on norpace, rhythmol and finally flecinade I was FINALLY ready for the maze. The meds would work for a few months (but then there were the side affects) and then there were no options left but an ablation or the maze. Given the stats on the maze, I felt it was the only way to go. I am now med free and have been in NSR since my discharge. It was a small price to pay for re-claiming my life. The few days of discomfort and pre-op anxiety are now a fleeting memory. My cardio was guiding me toward and ablation until he spoke w/ dr. mccarthy (thru my persistence). Regretable , most doctors seem more concerned with their own egos than the welfare of their patients. Luckily, my doctor was open minded enough to work with me. There are SO MANY resources on this board and the WWW ...USE THEM and take charge of your future. Good Luck!!
