Your cardiofysiologist must very uninformed.I had 4 ablations(two attempts for focal ablation and two flutter ablations,because I was fluttering on tambocor)and they took about 4 hours.Both percentages he gave you seems high to me:succesrate to cure a-fib is lower and the risk of stroke is much lower too.As far as I know is the biggest risk to get a stroke is to stay in a-fib.Even when you take coumadin the risk of stroke is higher than in normal population.Only after the maze (in Holland 90-95% succesrate) the risk of stroke returns to normal.So look for another cardiofysiologist who is better informed.
