Sheena's surgery

As most of you know, my mother's surgery was postponed until Monday. This is tough with all the waiting, but now she might be able to get the opportunity to meet her surgeon before the surgery.

It is a difficult process since they are still weighing the pros and cons of even performing the maze procedure at all, and that if her valve is replaced with a St. Jude mechanical, then she would have to remain on the coumadin for the rest of her life anyway. They don't forsee any difficulty with the repair of the tri-cuspid, since it has never been touched. If the mitral valve can be repaired with some certainty that it can be a near permanent repair, then there will definitely the possibility of having the maze in addition to the valve repairs/replacements. Needless to say it is very frustrating. I am sure that those of you out there who had the procedures at CC felt the frustration of the sheer magnitude of the place, and the number of people you need to talk to in place of the actual surgeons, and how difficult it is to wait several hours a day hoping to speak to the surgeon if he/she can fit you in. We are still holding out hope that she will have the opportunity today, so we are waiting by the phone here in the guesthouse.

She is optimistic though she says "Well, if he holds out until Monday then I guess he will be well-rested from the entire weekend".

I will keep you guys posted. -- Emilia
