Dave I agree that you sound as you are now on the right track in the recovery trip.
I am also on your side about the driving. Maybe I shouldn't of, but I was driving at 3 weeks with my surgeons ok, and under 3 weeks on my own. In fact I drove myself to the surgeon for my check up about 2 weeks after surgery. The only thing that bothered me was the possibility of a accident while not completely mended. I can't remember ever thanking that I had less than full control of the vehicle due to the sore sternum.
My surgeons said that the sternum has its full strength at 3 months, but I still had some soreness. I stayed a little sore until I had the wires removed at 2 years post op.
