In response to Anders' 2 posts: Hmmmm, perhaps someone IS reading these
posts, although it could be a coincidence. I know Ed and I both were seen by our surgeon a few times post-op, which back in the fall had been posted as a disappointment by some others. I would hope that some of these facilities/doctors would start to do some serious statistical follow-up, including those who may have preceded me by a number of years. I would like to know the long-term effects.
Re: Heart rate and exercise, I was relieved to read of your experience. Your pre-maze (and I assume, pre-AF) and post-maze HR mirror mine exactly. For the first few days after surgery, I was walking the hall at the hospital, having to work hard to get my pulse up to 80. My resting HR was in the upper 50's to mid
60's and I was ecstatic. Then I had a few bouts of AF (up to about 110-115) so they gave me Rythmol. Within less than 1-1/2 days, there had been no subsequent incidents, so they lowered the Rythmol to 150mg/ 3/day. I have had no AF since, but my resting HR is now 85-90. I hope I can get back to what
you have achieved, but I am pushing 60 and this has limited me for some 7-8 years minimum.
