My husband Paul had his maze surgery on 6/29/00. As I mentioned before, he started having afib attacks on the 4th day after surgery and was released from CCF on 160 mgs of Sotalol. (This was significantly less Sotalol than he was taking prior to surgery.) He continued to have small afib attacks for about 3 weeks after surgery but then they stopped. At 4 months post surgery, he cut down his sotalol to 80 mgs a day and within days began having small attacks again. Currently at 5 months post, he is taking 120 mgs and is stable. This is definitely a vast improvement over his condition before the maze. However, his goal was to be medicine free and it is not looking like this is going to happen. Sotalol is not a medicine that one wants to take the rest of their lifes. Also, he is still taking Coumidin per his doctor's wishes. It is a pretty frustrating situation.
