Henry: I join the chorus: NO, you cannot attempt to drive home, period. I had the open chest routine at nearly age 60, and was amazingly weak when I got to the airport in Cleveland. My CC cardiologist had insisted that I arrange for a wheelchair to get me out to my concourse, and I scoffed at the idea that I would need such help. By the time I got into the airport, pulling a carry-on bag, I knew I was not going to make it to the plane without the wheelchair.
When I got home, my strength rapidly increased every day, but I did not drive for 6 weeks. Could I have driven? Sure, probably at 2-3 weeks. Would I have been a safe driver? NO! Would I have been safe in a front seat during an accident? NO!(air bags/steering wheels could really do a number on one's chest).
Get someone to accompany you or stay in Cleveland longer, with an open-ended return ticket, or go a day earlier to be more certain that you will be there in time for tests, etc.
Please don't drive!
