I began swimming about a month after the maze. It took about a year to build up to what I thought was normal, but after two years, I felt even better. Dr. Cox said the heart heals quickly, normally within a couple of weeks. The longer term effect is from the anethesia(?) and being on the heart/lung machine (which does nasty things to the red corpusles). I did not experience the heavy feelings experienced by others, and actually felt quite good during my 6 month follow-up at Barnes. After I did the treadmill test, Cox sent me home saying no further tests were necessary.
