I vote with John! Having the family around would be a real blessing. If they have been seeing you in the "before maze" state, their enthusiasm for your post-maze condition should really buoy your spirits. Not to mention-you may be more comfortable than at a hotel, waiting to be cleared to go to Vegas.
I also agree that Dr. Millar sounds like a real gem. I had wanted to go to him because of early posts on this site from others, but my HMO would only send me to the Cleveland Clinic.
After going to the CC, I couldn't say enough good things about the staff, the care, the food, and the results, but I might well have been even more enthusiastic about LDS Hospital had I gone there. I believe John's results, considering his "before" condition speak volumes for Dr. Millar and his team.
But, as Jack says, it appears as though the surgeons who do the maze do it because they really feel as though they can really help people who, in most cases, but for AFib, would be very healthy, active people. They are special doctors who get very little publicity fixing a very big problem for those so afflicted. I doubt there are any surgeons doing the maze who aren't, as Jack says, "At the top of the class." They can keep plenty busy doing other heart surgeries, but they probably find maze alumni to be among, if not their most appreciative patients.
