Sheena,

I am 54 years old and had a mitral valve repair, single bypass, and maze procedure on August 21st at Mission St. Joseph hospital in Asheville, NC, by Dr. Harry Burton. The recovery times for board members vary quite a bit. It appears that the fewer procedures you have the quicker you come back. My surgery was on a Tuesday and I came home the next Tuesday. I was on the table for 7.5 hours. I don't remember any of Tuesday after I left my room for surgery. Never knew that I was on a vent.

I am very fortunate in that I have had no problem sleeping since I returned home. In fact I have been sleeping on my right side since my first night home. Medicine has made so much progress in managing pain and recovery that I had much less discomfort than I expected. I think that has been true for many of us. The anxiety of waiting to get it on was the toughest part for me.

God Bless
