Hello Sheena and welcome to the board. I have written you before, but you should get some excellent feed back from some of the other members. Also several members had their surgery in Cleveland so you can get some pointers on what to see, (besides the hospital), while you are there.
I have a feeling that when you first wake up, you will still be out of it enough that you really won't be experiencing much, if any pain. I can't remember much pain on anything except getting in and out of bed. I can remember that walking the day after surgery was no problem, except for taking 2 IV trees along with me. By the time I went home, stairs would of not been a problem. You just don't take them as fast as before.
I had no feeling of a weight on my chest after surgery, and I was released on the 5th day after surgery and was ready to go home. I don't really have any feelings as to which sex fares the best. I don't really think that would have much bearing on the outcome, or recovery.
I wish you the best on the whole trip, and I hope you get several other replies to your questions.
Best wishes and prayers.
