Henry, in 1990, I had prostate cancer and had a radical prostatectomy and donated my own blood for the surgery. I asked my Maze surgeon about this, and he said no. He said that if blood was required he would rather use the blood from the normal source. It is checked so much now that it is next to impossible to get infected with Aids. He gave me a reason for not using your own blood, but I don't really remember what it was. I don't know if I got a transfusion or not.
