Henry: I had no transfusion during my maze, but I am sure it is possible that one could be required if there was bleeding beyond what the surgeon would consider "normal". I gave some thought to "stockpiling" some blood for the same reason as you suggested, but my doctor said that he had sent more than a dozen patients to the CC and none had needed a transfusion. Given that my maze was done within 2 months after deciding upon it, I could not have saved more than a pint unless I delayed the surgery.
