I have been back in afib for the past 18 hours and I skipped taking coumadin last night because of my upcoming cataract surgery Tuesday morning. I am supposed to suspend taking coumadin until the day after my surgery. I have talked to my EP about the problem and he says no need to take coumadin and lovenox injections are not required.
Funny thing, back in 1999 I was admitted to the hospital for five days prior to surgery, to remove a malignant bladder tumor, so I could be administered lovenox twice daily for five days prior to the bladder surgery. I was told by my cardiologist at the time that it was necessary to prevent clotting in case I had an attack of afib.
Now will someone please tell me what's going on because I sure do not and my EP says not to be concerned.
I thought all these years I have been taking coumadin or lovenox when required to prevent clotting in cases like I am now experiencing.
