If anyone has ever seen the echo of their heart in AF, it is a scary thing. I just had an echo done this morning after my 4-24-01 maze, and it was a sight to see. The left atrium went from 4.5cm back to a more normal 4cm. Interestingly my ejection fraction went down to 50 from 60. This measures the force of the ventrical contraction, and although it is down, I think that my body is more relaxed and efficient, and it uses energy better.
I have been bicycling like a bonsai, and it feels good to give my heart and body a good workout; not like an AF workout where if the rate got to high it felt lousy and dangerous.
The sternum is still giving me a muted clicking sound which is worrisome, but two doctors checked me and reassured me that this should resolve itself. I'm still trying to take it easy with the lifting though. I'm scheduled to go off the rhythmol in a month or so after my 6 hour bout of atrial tachycardia after a couple of drinks. That's about all I have to report, good luck to all. Rob
