As I had previously posted my Maze and Aorta replacement surgery had been scheduled for July the 27th, it now could be rescheduled due to my latest echogram results. The new echo is showing moderate mitral valve stenosis which had not appeared before. My St Louis Cardiologist has asked me to delay the surgery for three months and then re-do the echo. If the echo in late September re-confirms the mitro valve problems, he then would recommend both the Aorta and Mitral valves be replaced at the same time the maze procedure is performed. I am forwarding this latest echo to Dr McCarthy for his opinion and recommendation before proceeding further.
My questions and concern are, if both the Aorta and Mitral valve, and the maze procedure are performed at the same time, does not the risk of surgery/complications become greater? Have any other mazer's had all three procedures done at the same time, and what were the complications, if any?

Carl and Henry thank you for the positve feed-back concerning the Dr McCarthy issues.

Regards

Patrick Haley
