Hi there,
I just wanted to say 'hi' and to take opportunity to report that I've now reached my goal. The goal? Being able to run the marathon. The first weekend of June I ran (yes, all the way) the Stockholm Marathon, covering the somewhat hilly course in 3.39 hours. Slow, sure, but who cares! I was just glad to prove a point; it can be done, even after the Maze. Now, I know that others gone through much tougher ordeals (wasn't it Ed Wehan who ran a ultra long run just shortly after his surgery?) and I'm not writing this to brag - I just wanted to testify that it can be done (if there's anyone who doubts it any longer :-)).
Since my Maze in February -99, I've been struggling with my training, doing what I can to come back to the old form. I've sort of come to terms with the insight that I probably won't reach the pre-surgery standard, but that I will indeed be able to continue to excercise freely and without any risk. That, of course, is undoubtedly the most important benefit that comes from the Maze. Now I'm looking forward to running the Masters' National Track & Field Championships in Augusti, knowing that I won't place first, but confident that the olī ticker will support me all the way to the finish line!
Take care and have a great summer!
Best regards,
Anders Kingstedt, Stockholm, Sweden
