Since my last post, my father has had an echocardiogram and seen the EP who gave us some disappointing news today. A little more than one year post mitral valve repair and Maze, we are now told that his atrium is about 2 cm larger than it should be. This would be due to the leaky valve from last year. The prognosis is to go on coumadin and stay on it for life, especially since dad doesn't know when he is in and out of a-fib. I don't understand why this would have been missed last year. Dad plans to try to get an appointment in Cleveland to try to sort this out. I really thought that these worries were behind us and now I just don't know what the future holds. Has anyone else had this problem of the enlarged atrium?
