An EP is a cardiac specialist in electrophysiology. I believe that the rule of thumb here is to put patients on coumadin if episodes of Afib are consecutive for 12 hours or more. Mine never lasted that long while on meds. I've been told that Amioderone is the drug of last resort. It has very wicked side effects. After my failed ablation and near death of 2/11/03, I was put on this drug. I had no appetitie and lost 24 pounds. My cornea was stained in both eyes. I also have a permanent type of paralysis in both hips, though not disabling. It did stop the Afib, though.
