Hi everyone,
I haven't posted on this board since I was having some worries with palpitations several months ago. Just as I was finding out that all was okay, my husband landed a job in Paris and so we have been busy with moving (again). I am writing today because my father has just learned he is back in afib. I did not expect this setback at all. Several of you gave us such helpful advice after his procedures in Cleveland last year (and when I myself had some worries) that I thought you may be able to advise us again. As I mentioned, he had a mitral valve repair and maze done in March of last year. The leaky valve had caused heart failure and the afib I believe. Apart from a few setbacks after the surgery, he has been doing very well. He had quite a busy weekend last week. He worked in the garden in the southern heat for 2 days, took some Taekwondo classes and attended a few parties with my mom. I believe they danced quite a bit. All of this on top of the stressful job he has. Could overdoing it have sent him back into afib? He did not even know he was in afib until he took his blood pressure and heard some odd beeping. The doctor confirmed the next day that he was indeed back in afib. He is now back on coumadin, as well as a medication to lower his heart rate. I should mention that he has also had high blood pressure for years and is taking 2 medications for that I believe. He saw the EP this week and the plan is to cardiovert him in about a month once the coumadin has had a chance to build up. Does this sound like a good plan? What other options do we have? What are his chances of getting rid of the afib again? I know I have alot of questions but I have come to trust you all for good advice when it comes to heart concerns. Thank you all very much for any comments you may have.
