Carl,
After my procedure, I wasn't supposed to lift more than 5 pounds for about three months. I, too had the creaking and popping noises. The surgeon was concerned at one point about the popping, which did go away. If it had not done so within a week or so after I spoke to him, he was going to consider re-sectioning the sternum. Fortunately, I didn't have to go through this. My breathing problem from the paralyzed diaphragm also placed restrictions on me as to lifting. However, my pulmonary doctor finally suggested that I go to a gym to build up my resistance. I started going 3 times per week for about 3 months. I would have thought that these exercises would have built up my chest muscles to a point where I wouldn't notice the discomfort. Crazy things will set this condition off. Once, it happened while I was drying my hair. I'm real sore for about a day, then it feels like a muscle strain that eventually goes away in a week or so, unless I do something else to aggravate it. Two weeks ago, I picked up a bag of mulch. Same deal, and sore for about two weeks. I still have some tenderness where the scar is. Does that ever go away?
Pete
