I just posted this same message as a follow-up to Tom Glass’s post but it occurred to me that some folks may miss it if they just look at titles. So here it is again.
Tom I am coming up on three years too and I was planning to post a little closer to my anniversary in August but your message and follow-ups struck a chord. My maze made a wonderful difference in my life and is documented elsewhere on this board. However since the procedure I have had a low resting heart rate that drifts lower still if I don't move. I was also unable to get my rate above 120 bpm and this limited my ability to run. I am 53 and like to run 4-5 miles a day. So a couple of weeks ago I took the plunge and had a rate responsive pacemaker installed (Medtronics Kappa 400). This contains sensors that increase my heart rate as my activity level increases. This has yet to be calibrated (due May 25th) but right now the unit prevents my heart rate from falling below 50 bpm and also keeps my atria and venticles in sync. I feel wonderful no more fatigue. I can drink wine at lunch on the weekend and not sleep all afternoon. I don't know if this has any bearing on your situation but I would encourage you and all of my fellow mazers who seem to have the parking break on to consider electronic support. PS I am not pacemaker dependent - if it fails I'm back to where I was before. I am not talking ablate and pace. This is seamless support.
Best Wishes - Paul
