My third year anniversary

I had my maze done 3 years ago today by Dr McCarthy. I waited until my heart walls started thickening after 7 chronic years and 20 years of possible AF problems. The only problems I had post op was a sore sternum(exhaling before sneezing is a good idea) and a few weird beat episodes early on.
There were no doctors that encouraged my except at the CC, and remembering back, it was a very difficult decision to undergo surgery for a "benign" condition. Well, I was going downhill, and I still can find no fault in the argument that one year spent in AF is riskier than a heart operation with an experienced doctor. I still marvel at having a second chance at a quality life, but I am taking it for granted more and more with time passing.
I'm back kayaking class V rivers, and this year did 6 major ski trips with my family. I find exerting myself to the limit a challenge more to my body, than my heart.
I express many of the same thoughts as John Behle did a couple of weeks ago on his 3rd anniversary. I hope this board continues to be used earnestly by those that want to share and those that need the help and encouragement. This board could do without some of its excessive chit chat, as it dilutes a more serious purpose.
Respectfully,
Rob Hamill
