Walt,
Just to follow up on Henry's comment, I was told by an attorney to make sure that you get the "pro's" to do the procedure, not doctors in training. I was advised to put this on my consent form. I had confirmed with Dr. Callans that he would do the procedure on me based upon the previous experience, and he agreed. I reconfirmed this with him twice via email between October and April. Yet, the day before the procedure while in the hospital, I was approached by another doctor, a fellow, who informed me that he would be doing the procedure. I told him that that would not be the case. He responded that Penn is a teaching hospital, and that he had performed 70 ablations. I know that he was insulted. Dr. Callans came in later that day and told us he would do whatever I wanted. He would lead in the procedure. I feel that you will be in good hands with either Dr. Marchlinski or Dr. Callans. While in the hospital, I was told that Penn now has another excellent EP doctor, named Andrea Russo. Penn is doing lots of ablations. They may be doing one a day at both Penn and Presbyterian, and Dr. Callans soon plans to perform two per day on occasions.
