Laura, you didn't mention wearing a holter, or a event monitor. I think that is something I would want done before I considered the ablation. Setting up a ablation before you get it pinned down, exactly what is going on seems premature.
Some of the things you described, could be indication of having atrial fibrillation also. You can't feel in your pulse the fibrillation of the atria, only how it affects the ventricle.
He could of caught the PVC's on a EKG, and at the time you might not be having AF.
I am not that knowledgeable on ablating for PVC, and possibly some one else can shed more light on that. Ablations are getting better on effectiveness of curing many arrhythmias, but a lot depends on the EP doing the procedure. All ablations are not preformed equally, or with the same effectiveness.
There is a Dr. Jeffery Swanson, in Portland that does the maze, but I think he is fairly new in this procedure, and you may not even be having AF, but only the PVC's.
I would suggest getting a second opinion, and insisting on wearing a monitor to document what is really going on.
Some people do go in for a EP study, and ablation if they find a need for it, but personally I would like more documentation on what is going on before I underwent any invasive procedure.
Best wishes and prayers
