Today is my two-year maze anniversary at the Cleveland Clinic by Dr. Pat McCarthy. I will be drinking a couple of glasses of wine and eating elk stake in celebration of the event. I spent the morning jogging 5 miles with my wife and dog. My health is great and I am in NSR.

I won’t go into all of my details, but I went to the CC for the Maze only because I had no other heart problems. Toward the end of my afib days I did have a one-month period of chronic afib. After the maze, I was out of the hospital in 5 days and across the street at the hotel. On about the second day out of the hospital I went into what I think was flutter with a rate of about 160 bpm. I went back across the street to the CC and was converted back to NSR with drugs. I spent one night in the hospital and lift for my 1,600 mile drive home. I stayed on drugs for 3 more months and then went off drugs completely. During that first year to year and a half I did have periods of frequent PVCs and PACs. About 6 MOs ago I noticed that the PVCs and PACs just seems to decrease to the point that I haven’t felt one single missed beat in a couple of months now. Is that great or what? I never had any afib after leaving the CC. Having the maze was one of the best things I have ever done. It has certainly worked for me. I can’t thank the group enough for all of the help. I am 90% sure that without this group and all of the wonderful people who respond that I would not have had the courage to go to the CC and get the maze done. I would still be going from one drug to another trying to control my afib. I'm sure that by now my condition would be worse because of the afib and all the drugs. A couple of days ago I went in for my FAA physical that included an ECG. It was normal with nice big P waves again. I naturally passed my first class physical and am still flying for a living. It sure took some time for those P waves to come back to normal. I noticed that with each ECG they seemed to get more and more defined and closer to normal in amplitude.
