I don't remember having afib until I went to the doctor with an irregular beat in January of 2002. I do, however, remember being with a girl friend back in 1980, and I had to urinate every few minutes for about an hour. The girl kept asking me what was wrong. This may have been my first episode.
I was diagnosed with PVC's in 1994, but they seemed to subside without medication. At least, I didn't notice them as much as when they first started.
My mother, who is 80, has had afib for several years now. Hers is chronic. She does not know that she is in afib, and has never known the anxiety that it causes. She is taking coumadin. I told my mother that afib is probably genetic, to which she told me, " that is ridiculous." I asked her what her parents died from. She told me that her mother died from a stroke while in her 50's. Bingo!
