I remember one day I was ironing(yes, we used to do that sort of thing) and my heart started racing for no apparent reason. I was scared and almost went to the emergency room but the racing finally stopped.
The next occasion that I remember was when I got a phone call at work informing me that the non-profit I ran was going to lose a program that provided about one third of our budget. My heart raced the entire day.
Some years later I was taking a stress test just to get a baseline established; went into AFib big time. The test was stopped; my doctor immediately set up an appointment for me with a cardiologist.
That was about seven years ago. A beta blocker did the trick until February 2003 when I started going in and out of AFib resulting in more and more medication and the demise of life as I had known it.
Three months later I had the maze and a valve repair at the Cleveland Clinic. Today I am AFib free and better than ever.
My daughter at age 38 is now experiencing bouts of rapid heart beat. I was told AFib is not hereditary but I am beginning to wonder. At least she knows where to find the ultimate solution if it comes to that.
